Review

Onthe basis of 300 cm3 marketed in 2008, Sym offers the followingyear Citycom in 125 cm3, a rigorous scooter complementing one ofthe largest ranges in the segment 125. However it should not bepositioned as a single large wheels, there is already Symphonyand Sym HD. Indeed, there arises a true sporting GT-like model, like the Yamaha X-Max!

Halfway between the Piaggio X7 and X-Max Yamaha, the Citycom 125is aesthetic, if not innovative and fits well into the currenttrend of the competition. The face of the scooter displays twolarge integrated head lights. The handlebar and fairing istopped with a generous windscreen, a wide seat and largepassenger handles. The set is as modern as it is sensual, butmore importantly, this scooter is a true GT.

Sym made great strides towards the standards that we have becomeaccustomed to from the Japanese and Europeans. The scooter islarge without being bulky, provides sufficient protection toaddress highways and equipment worthy of a GT. Certainly, onemiss the warning lights and the ignition light control ismanual. This is the only pitfall, the rest is not open tocriticism.

The dashboard, mixing analog and digital display, provides allnecessary information. Speedometer, tachometer, total andpartial mileage, fuel gauge with LED segments separate forindicating reserve, clock ... Below, the seat is enough space toaccommodate a full-face helmet.. There is also a circuitbreaker, apparently favored by Taiwanese designers as anantitheft device.

Note also the passenger footrests retractable, and the glovebox, although not very large is equipped with a 12-volt outlet.

One of the benefits of the scooter is the big wheels - theCitycom is easy to handle. The driving position is comfortableand relaxing and more than satisfactory. Suspension is good andhandles unevenness of the surface well. Moreover, the protectionprovided by the body, the windshield and small handguards isworthy of a GT scooter.

Braking is powerful and easy to modulate on the front, a littletoo biting at the back, but on the whole is reassuring in anemergency (tested and approved!). The large diameter wheelsensure stability, without compromising the freshness of Citycom, which particularly at ease in city congestion. When you leavethe city to highways and dotted curves, the behavior of thescooter remains healthy, even if you feel a slight unsteadinessin fast curves. We got better directional stability by adjustingthe shock absorbers firmer. The only complaint we have isaverage feeling provided by the Maxxis tires fitted as originalequipment. Not that the grip is bad, but it's hard to know howfar you can go

With regard to the engine of the Citycom, there are nosurprises. This is the engine is already propelling the GTS - asingle-cylinder 4-valve cylinder head, still fed by acarburetor. A strong and valiant setup, but we will enjoy thearrival of electronic fuel injection. Performance ismodest compared to the best current scooters, with a top speedof 106 km/h chrono (120 km/h displayed ). This is not bad, justaverage. This is also the case for acceleration, with a 0 - 100meters in 9.7 seconds, revealing some softness at low speeds. Infact, the best of this engine is obtained midrange, where itoffers sufficient power. We measured an average consumption of4.5 l/100 allowing you to travel more than 200 km on a fulltank.
