Gilera Super Sport 600
.Gilera was important in road racing throughout the firsthalf of the twentieth century, winning 44 Grand Prix titles beforewithdrawing from racing in 1957. More recently, it was better known for itssmall-capacity scooters. But with the Supersport 600, Gilera is aiming toreturn to the large-capacity sportsbike market. Unveiled in 2001, theSupersport 600 is intended to be in production for 2003. Gilera will use theSuzuki GSX-R600 engine, installed in its own high-specification chassis. Aninnovative titanium/aluminium frame uses aerospace glue to join the titaniumsteering head components to the aluminium beams, permitting light weight. Alarge central ram-air intake in the nose cone supplies cool air to theengine at high speeds.
